The festival was an international kite festival that re-lived the traditional enthusiasm and happiness of kite-flying.
As a hobby or entertainment activity ‘Kite-flying’ was no longer a familiar scene in the by-lanes or terraces of Pune. To keep this obsessive and enthusiastic tradition alive amongst the young generation, Sakal Media Group, who has always been on the forefront for introducing the city to novelty, organized the 1st ever ‘Pune International Kite Festival’
Kite flyers from all over the country and corners of the world, were present here in Pune, on the 26th of January, 2014 for the Sakal Pune International Kite Festival. The expert enthusiasts showcased their passion for kite flying with their innovative kites of gigantic sizes and vibrant colour
In addition to the kite festival, the YRI carnival for kids added to the fervor. Tattoo making, face painting, photo booth, ring game, ping pong, bull ride along with jumping doll, sumo suit and many more engaging games left young kids impatient with excitement. The carnival was organized by Sakal’s ‘Young Republic of India’ club, an exclusive children’s club. Riveting performances by jugglers and men on stilts were one of the many features of the carnival.
The kite-festival also witnessed presence of renowned celebrities:
Amruta Khanvilkar, Mukta Barve, Neha Pendse, Mrunal Kulkarni, Amruta Ghuge, Smita Gondkar, Adinath Kothare, Smita Tambe, Neha Hinge, Jyoti Malshe, Renu Desai, Aditya Sarpotdar and Pooja Pawar.
